  abstract = {{S}everal outcrops of pre-{C}retaceous low-metamorphic-grade sedimentary and extrusive (volcanic and subvolcanic) rocks present in the northern {A}ltiplano of {B}olivia are herein interpreted as having a probable late {V}endiant (?)-{E}arly {P}aleozoic age. {T}hese rocks are present at three different localities: (a) {S}errania {C}hilla (with {C}erro {C}hilla rising to 4825 m), south of {T}iwanaku, (b) {S}ewenkani and other creeks, north of {J}esus de {M}achaca, and (c) several hills {NW} and {N} of {C}aquiaviri. the two first series of outcrops present a complex sedimentary sequence consisting of deep water, dark laminated shales and siltstones, interbedded with thin sandstone beds displaying typical {B}ouma sequences, and thicker beds of coaster sand, conglomerates and diamicitites. {T}his sequence is here interpreted as part of a deep-sea fan system, although marine fauna and/or ichnofossils are yet to be found (palynological analysis gave no positive results). {T}hick (up to 50 m) beds of basic volcanic and subvolcanic rocks are also included in the sequence. {T}hese are identified by relics of pillow-lavas and flow structures, columnar jointing, differential core-to-contact crystallization degrees, and synsedimentary interaction with the soft sediment. {T}he third series of outcrops does not present interbedded igneous rocks, nor the coaster clastic beds. {P}recious interpretations of these series of outcrops as an ophiolite or blastomylonitc belt are inconsistent with field evidence and should be disregarded. {I}nstedad, these rocks are herein correlated with other deep-sea fan sequences also including interbedded volcanic and/or subvolcanic rocks, whick are found (1) in the late {V}endiant(?)-{E}arly {C}ambrian {P}uncoviscana {F}m. of {NW} {A}rgentina ({S}an {C}ristobal {F}m. of {S} {B}olivia) and in the {O}llantaytambo {S}eries of southern {P}eru, and (b) in the {L}ate {C}ambrian-{O}rdovician {S}equence of the {E}astern {C}ordillera of the {C}entral {A}ndes (southern {P}eru, {B}olivia and northern {A}rgentina) ({R}{\'e}sum{\'e} d'auteur).},
