  abstract = {{T}his descriptive catalogue of the nearshore molluscs of the {A}ntofagasta area ({N}orthern {C}hile) was compiled to provide some basic information on 68 species of gastropods and 34 species of pelecypods (102 species in total). {F}or each species it is indicated : the reference diagnosis, the biogeographic range (according to previous works), the major morphological characteristics of the shell, some relevant ecological and biological data, and a graphic representation of a typical shell. {T}he main results of the study deal with new records of species which had not been reported until to now in the area. {W}e confirm the presence of the following species in the surroundings of {A}ntofagasta : #{T}ricolia umbilicata$, #{E}atoniella ({E}.) latina$, #{S}alitra radwini$, #{M}itra ({A}.) orientalis$, #{I}selica carotica$, #{B}ulla ({B}.) punctulata$, {A}trina cf. oldroydii$, #{K}ellia tumbesiana$, #{L}innucula pisum$, #{C}yclocardia cf. compressa$, #{E}nsis macha$, #{E}urhomalea lenticularis$, #{S}curria plana$, #{S}curria bohmita$, #{C}repipatella dorsata$, #{C}repidula philippiana$, #{S}inum cymba$, #{B}ursa ({R}.) ventricosa$, #{X}anthochorus buxea$, #{C}ancellaria ({S}.) buccinoides$, #{B}arbatia ({A}.) pusilla$, #{C}hama pellucida$, #{D}iplodonta inconspicua$, #{D}onax peruvianus$, and #{C}umingia mutica$. {S}ome of the newly reported species often correspond to species which had not been correctly identified previously, or which had not been observed until now. {I}n the most protected area of {S}an {J}orge {B}ay we collected samples of some species which normally live in warm waters and which seem to benefit from anomalous oceanographic and climatic conditions related to strong {E}l {N}ino events.
