  abstract = {{T}he trunk bark and roots of #{A}nnona spinescens$ have been investigated for their alkaloid content. {T}wo new berbine alkaloids, pessoine and spinosine, have been isolated from the bark, and their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. {E}ight known isoquinoline alkaloids were also obtained. {T}he trypanocidal and antileishmanial activities of these isolated compounds have been investigated.
