  abstract = {{U}sing acoustics for biomass evaluation, the back scattering cross section of species has to be determinated to convert the data into weighted values. {D}uring the cruises of {EU} {P}roject "{J}ava {S}ea {P}elagic {F}ishery", {TS} measurements on three pelagic fishes of economic importance : #{D}ecapterus russelli$, #{S}elar crumenophthalmus$, #{R}astrelliger kanagurta$ were carried out, using a {B}iosonics dual beam echosounder at 120 {KHZ}. {T}he observations on single or multiple targets in a cage, revealed a large dispersion of the responses, even in the same experiment. {T}hese results are discussed and compared with {J}ohannesson's ({A}nonymous, 1984) in the same area.
