@article{PAR00025629, title = {{E}valuation of microplastic removal efficiency of wastewater-treatment plants in a developing country, {V}ietnam}, author = {{L}e, {T}. {M}. {T}. and {T}ruong, {T}. {N}. {S}. and {N}guyen, {P}. {D}. and {L}e, {Q}. {D}. {T}. and {T}ran, {Q}. {V}. and {L}e, {T}. {T}. and {N}guyen, {Q}. {H}. and {K}ieu-{L}e, {T}. {C}. and {S}trady, {E}milie}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{W}astewater-treatment plants ({WWTP}s) are considered significant point sources of microplastics ({M}i{P}) in the receiving waters; {M}i{P} release is poorly estimated in developing countries. {M}i{P} abundance, recovery efficiency and daily load to receiving waters were explored in treatment stage facilities of four {WWTP}s in {V}ietnam, located in {H}o {C}hi {M}inh {C}ity, {T}hu {D}au {M}ot, and {D}a {L}at. {M}i{P} abundance varied from 1860 items m-3 to 125,000 items m-3 in influents and between 140 items m-3 and 813 items m-3 in the final effluents. {T}he {M}i{P}-removal efficiency was the highest in the {D}a {L}at wastewater treatment plant ({DL} {WWTP}), a tertiary treatment plant using trickling filters followed by aerated lagoon and maturation ponds for {BOD} and nitrogen removals. {T}he lowest {M}i{P}removal efficiency was observed in {B}inh {H}ung wastewater-treatment plant ({BH} {WWTP}), a combined sewer system using conventional activated sludge processes as secondary treatment. {T}he total daily {M}i{P} load to the receiving environment varied from 1,840,000 items d-1 at the {DL} {WWTP} to 77,127,000 items d-1 at the {BH} {WWTP}. {C}hange in {M}i{P} abundance, morphology, and removal efficiency were discussed after each stage of the treatment process for the four {WWTP}s}, keywords = {{M}icroplastics ; {W}astewater-treatment plant ; {R}etention efficiency ; {CAS} ; {SBR} ; {VIET} {NAM}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}nvironmental {T}echnology and {I}nnovation}, volume = {29}, numero = {}, pages = {102994 [13 ]}, ISSN = {2352-1864}, year = {2023}, DOI = {10.1016/j.eti.2022.102994}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00025629}, }
