  abstract = {{T}he {H}erbarium of {N}ew {C}aledonia ({NOU}) was founded in 1961 within the {I}nstitut {F}rancais d'{O}ceanie (now {I}nstitut de {R}echerche pour le {D}eveloppement) by {J}.{P}. {B}lanchon. {Q}ualitatively and quantitatively enriched by the consecutive curators and associated staff, it is today rich of more than 90000 specimens including 834 nomenclatural types. {T}hese specimens represent a total of 6665 taxa coming essentially from {N}ew {C}aledonia but also from 15 other {P}acific territories, and particularly from {V}anuatu and {W}allis and {F}utuna. {W}ith more than 300 citations on {G}oogle{S}cholar and each year nearly 270 consultations, 100 requests for data and 3500 visits to the website, the {NOU} {H}erbarium is today an indispensable scientific, heritage and educational tool for {N}ew {C}aledonia. {I}ts influence extends beyond the {P}acific with exchanges of material with 70 international institutions. {I}n the current context of global change and political and social instability, means must be found with all local actors so that the {NOU} {H}erbarium can continue to ensure its role in the service of sustainable development and heritage.},
