  abstract = {{I}n {C}entral {A}frica, {L}ate {S}tone {A}ge ({LSA}) seems to emerge before the {L}ate {G}lacial {M}aximum ({LGM}) usually associated to a fluctuating savanna expansion and forest cover reduction. {H}owever, few sites with a reliable chrono-stratigraphic context allow us to deal with the emergence, the diffusion and the specificities of the regional lithic assemblages associated to the {L}ate {S}tone {A}ge. {T}he site of {M}aboue 5, located in the {L}ope {N}ational {P}ark in {G}abon provided useful lithic corpus to consider these questions. {T}his paper provides a detailed technological analysis of the {L}ayer 3 dated between 44 600 and 14 770 cal. {BP}. {W}e consider both the production patterns of the entire assemblage and the morpho-structural characteristics of the tools. {O}ur results exhibit a lithic assemblage associating both {M}iddle and {L}ate {S}tone {A}ge technological patterns and argue for regional technological variability among early {LSA} quartz assemblages. {F}inally, we highlight the specificities of quartz lithic industry of a site in the poorly documented region of western {C}entral {A}frica and we question the validity of the regional nomenclature, namely the {T}shitolian and {L}upemban facies, to classify this final {L}ate {P}leistocene lithic assemblage.},
