@article{PAR00022529, title = {{T}hree new species of {U}variodendron ({A}nnonaceae) from coastal {E}ast {A}frica in {K}enya and {T}anzania}, author = {{D}agallier, {L}. {P}. {M}. {J}. and {M}bago, {F}. {M}. and {L}uke, {W}. {R}. {Q}. and {C}ouvreur, {T}homas}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{E}ast {A}frica is a hotspot of biodiversity with many endemic plant species. {W}e describe three new species of the genus {U}variodendron ({A}nnonaceae) from the coastal forests of {K}enya and {T}anzania. {U}variodendron mbagoi {D}agallier & {C}ouvreur, sp. nov. is endemic to {T}anzania and unique within the genus by its strong bergamot scent and its tomentose fruits having regular tufts of higher hair density. {U}variodendron dzomboense {D}agallier, {W}.{R}.{Q}. {L}uke & {C}ouvreur, sp. nov. is endemic to {D}zombo {H}ill in {K}enya and is rendered distinct by its small leaves and very densely pubescent carpels. {U}variodendron schmidtii {W}.{R}.{Q}. {L}uke, {D}agallier & {C}ouvreur, sp. nov. is endemic to {S}himba {H}ills in {K}enya and differs by its small flowers and fused sepals forming a ring. {F}ollowing {IUCN} criteria we assessed {U}. mbagoi and {U}. dzomboense as endangered ({EN}) while {U}. schmidtii is assessed as {V}ulnerable ({VU}). {W}e also propose a new combination: {P}olyceratocarpus oligocarpus ({V}erdc.) {D}agallier, comb. nov. {T}he description of these three new species underlines the richness in endemics in {E}ast {A}frica and that new discoveries might arise from further botanical exploration of this region.}, keywords = {{A}nnonaceae ; bergamot ; {D}zombo {H}ill ; endemic ; {IUCN} conservation status ; {S}himba {H}ills ; {KENYA} ; {TANZANIE} ; {SHIMBA} {HILLS} ; {DZOMBO} {HILL}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}hytokeys}, numero = {174}, pages = {107--126}, ISSN = {1314-2011}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.3897/phytokeys.174.61630}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00022529}, }
