  abstract = {{S}everal specimens of a new {S}ternopygidae, {J}upigny kirschbaum ({G}ymnotiformes), were caught in three rivers of {F}rench {G}uiana ({A}pprouague, {M}ana, {M}aroni). {T}his species, characterized by alternating large wide dark and vertical bands on the whole body and a scapular foramen, is considered as belonging to a new genus in the {E}igenmanninae subfamily. {A}s the other genus of this subfamily ({A}rcholaemus, {D}istocyclus, {E}igenmannia and {R}habdolichops) it has three radials, the third resulting from the fusion of radials 3 and 4; but it differs from the other in having 14-15 precaudal vertebrae versus 11-14, and a lower number of anal fin rays (132-164 versus 160-260). {T}his new species also have a short snout with a subterminal mouth.},
