@article{PAR00009910, title = {{D}oes cancer survivors' health-related quality of life depend on cancer type? {F}indings from a large {F}rench national sample 2 years after cancer diagnosis}, author = {{L}e {C}orroller-{S}oriano, {A}. {G}. and {B}ouhnik, {A}. {D}. and {P}reau, {M}. and {M}ala-{V}olti, {L}. and {J}ulian-{R}eynier, {C}. and {A}uquier, {P}. and {M}oatti, {J}ean-{P}aul}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{W}e investigated whether health-related quality of life ({HRQL}) depends on cancer type, after adjustment for demographic and medical variables. {A} {F}rench national population-based survey was conducted between {N}ovember and {D}ecember 2004 to assess surviving cancer patients' {HRQL} 2 years after diagnosis. {HRQL} was measured by the 36-{I}tem {S}hort {F}orm {S}urvey scale. {T}he sample included 3900 persons. {A}ll cancer diagnoses were entered in the study. {W}e demonstrated that medical and treatment variables have an impact on patients' physical {HRQL} but not on mental {HRQL}. {C}ancer type impacted on physical {HRQL}, with those suffering from upper aerodigestive tract /lung cancers and haematological malignancies being affected to a greater degree. {D}isturbing side effects impacted both {HRQL} domains. {S}ocio-demographic variables had statistically significant effects but not clinically meaningful ones. {S}ocio-economic variables led to potentially clinically meaningful differences for cancer patients' {HRQL} and represented a socio-economic gradient in {HRQL} among cancer survivors. {F}rom our results, we may assert that cancer survivors, 2 years after cancer diagnosis, share a similar pattern of psychological morbidity, independent of cancer type. {P}atients disproportionately affected by cancer, such as those with lower educational levels and income, need to be identified and targeted and interventions which address their unique needs and concerns need to be developed.}, keywords = {health-related quality of life ; cancer survivors ; 36-{I}tem {S}hort {F}orm ; {S}urvey ; population study ; cancer type}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}uropean {J}ournal of {C}ancer {C}are}, volume = {20}, numero = {1}, pages = {132--140}, ISSN = {0961-5423}, year = {2011}, DOI = {10.1111/j.1365-2354.2009.01160.x}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00009910}, }
