@article{PAR00009804, title = {{A} continuous record of vegetation and climate change over the past 50,000 years in the {F}ujian {P}rovince of eastern subtropical {C}hina}, author = {{Y}ue, {Y}. {F}. and {Z}heng, {Z}. and {H}uang, {K}. {Y}. and {C}hevalier, {M}. and {C}hase, {B}. {M}. and {C}arre, {M}. and {L}edru, {M}arie-{P}ierre and {C}heddadi, {R}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} 425 cm core has been collected from the {G}antang subalpine peat bog, in {P}ingnan {C}ounty, {F}ujian {P}rovince of {S}outhern {C}hina. {H}igh-resolution pollen analysis of the core has allowed for the reconstruction of past vegetation and climate changes over the last 50,000 years. {T}oday, {F}ujian province is located in the eastern part of middle subtropical zone where the dominant vegetation is evergreen broadleaved forest that receives its precipitation from the {E}ast {A}sian {M}onsoon. {T}he pollen record testifies that the vegetation in {F}ujian varied between subtropical evergreen and warm temperate deciduous forests during the last glacial-interglacial cycle. {I}t appears that during {M}arine {O}xygen {I}sotope {S}tage 3, this area was covered with broadleaved forest suggesting warm and wet subtropical condition, whereas the flora was quite different with many ancient elements. {T}he {L}ast {G}lacial {M}aximum is distinguished by an increase in warm temperate deciduous taxa, particularly {F}agus and {A}lnus accompanied by abundant {E}ricaceae, implying a spatial shift of zonal vegetation during this coldest episode in the world. {L}ocal swamp developed soon after the {Y}ounger {D}ryas event coinciding with the formation of peatlands in the {N}orthern {H}emisphere possibly linked with atmospheric carbon accumulation. {A} rapid increase in evergreen broadleaved taxa that dominated the local forest occurred at similar to ca. 8.2 cal ka {BP}, indicating the inception of the regional thermal maximum during the {H}olocene, which was generally characterised by more humid conditions. {T}he middle to late {H}olocene sees a progressive decline in arboreal elements, and an increase in grasses and {E}ricaceae. {T}hese changes beginning from around 4 ka cal {BP} were concordant with the general weakening of the {E}ast {A}sian {M}onsoon during the {H}olocene, corresponding with an orbitally induced reduction of boreal summer insolation. {T}his is the first terrestrial high-resolution record from eastern part of middle subtropical areas that evaluates the forest changes through the last glacial-interglacial cycle.}, keywords = {{L}ast {G}lacial {M}aximum ; {P}ollen analysis ; {B}roadleaved forest ; {E}ast {A}sian ; {M}onsoon ; {S}ubtropical {C}hina ; {CHINE} ; {ZONE} {TROPICALE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}alaeogeography {P}alaeoclimatology {P}alaeoecology}, volume = {365}, numero = {}, pages = {115--123}, ISSN = {0031-0182}, year = {2012}, DOI = {10.1016/j.palaeo.2012.09.018}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00009804}, }
