@article{PAR00009520, title = {{M}acellibacteroides fermentans gen. nov., sp nov., a member of the family {P}orphyromonadaceae isolated from an upflow anaerobic filter treating abattoir wastewaters}, author = {{J}abari, {L}. and {G}announ, {H}. and {C}ayol, {J}. {L}. and {H}edi, {A}. and {S}akamoto, {M}. and {F}alsen, {E}. and {O}hkuma, {M}. and {H}amdi, {M}. and {F}auque, {G}. and {O}llivier, {B}ernard and {F}ardeau, {M}arie-{L}aure}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} novel obligately anaerobic, non-spore-forming, rod-shaped mesophilic bacterium, which stained {G}ram-positive but showed the typical cell wall structure of {G}ram-negative bacteria, was isolated from an upflow anaerobic filter treating abattoir wastewaters in {T}unisia. {T}he strain, designated {LIND}7{H}({T}), grew at 20-45 degrees {C} (optimum 35-40 degrees {C}) and at p{H} 5.0-8.5 (optimum p{H} 6.5-7.5). {I}t did not require {N}a{C}l for growth, but was able to grow in the presence of up to 2% {N}a{C}l. {S}ulfate, thiosulfate, elemental sulfur, sulfite, nitrate and nitrite were not used as terminal electron acceptors. {S}train {LIND}7{H}({T}) used cellobiose, glucose, lactose, mannose, maltose, peptone, rhamnose, raffinose, sucrose and xylose as electron donors. {T}he main fermentation products from glucose metabolism were lactate, acetate, butyrate and isobutyrate. {T}he predominant cellular fatty acids were anteiso-{C}-15:0, {C}-15:0, {C}-17:0 2-{OH} and a summed feature consisting of {C}-18:2 omega 6,9c and/or anteiso-{C}-18:0, and the major menaquinones were {MK}-9, {MK}-9({H}-2) and {MK}-10. {T}he {G}+{C} content of the genomic {DNA} was 41.4 mol%. {A}lthough the closest phylogenetic relatives of strain {LIND}7{H}({T}) were {P}arabacteroides merdae, {P}arabacteroides goldsteinii and {P}arabacteroides gordonii, analysis of the hsp60 gene sequence showed that strain {LIND}7{H}({T}) was not a member of the genus {P}arabacteroides. {O}n the basis of phylogenetic inference and phenotypic properties, strain {LIND}7{H}({T}) (={CCUG} 60892({T})={DSM} 23697({T})={JCM} 16313({T})) is proposed as the type strain of a novel species in a new genus within the family {P}orphyromonadaceae, {M}acellibacteroides fermentans gen. nov., sp. nov.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {62}, numero = {{P}art 10}, pages = {2522--2527}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2012}, DOI = {10.1099/ijs.0.032508-0}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00009520}, }
