@article{PAR00007444, title = {{S}patial distribution of ticks in {T}hailand : a discussion basis for tick-borne virus spread assessment}, author = {{C}ornet, {J}.{P}. and {D}emoraes, {F}. and {S}ouris, {M}arc and {K}ittayapong, {P}. and {G}onzalez, {J}ean-{P}aul}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} wide variety of viral infectious diseases are transmitted to humans by ticks and in certain cases, theses diseases can lead to a severe encephalitis or haemorrhagic fever. {W}ithin the framework of a research programme on emerging viral diseases carried out by the {F}rench {I}nstitute of {R}esearch for the {D}evelopment ({I}nstitut de {R}echerche pour le {D}{\'e}veloppement, {IRD}) in partnership with the {C}entre for {V}ectors and {V}ector-borne {D}iseases, {M}ahidol {U}niversity ({T}hailand), the spatial distribution of ticks in {T}hailand was investigated. {A}n exhaustive review of studies of acarology conducted over the 20th century on {T}hailand was completed. {W}e derived from this review the geographic coordinates of sites where ticks were collected in the past. {I}n complement, we realised field works to collect ticks on unexplored sites. {T}he location of theses sites was obtained with a {GPS} ({G}lobal {P}ositioning {S}ystem). {H}ence, we were able to build up a location-based inventory of ticks covering almost the whole {T}hailand. {T}hese data were then processed in a {GIS} to assess in every region the presence of tick species and to map the distribution of species known as potential vectors of viruses which are likely to be pathogenic to humans. {A}ll the {GIS} processings were undertaken using {S}av{GIS}©, a {GIS} freeware developed by {IRD}. {T}his research represents a starting point for assessing tick-borne virus spread and the related risk of zoonosis in {T}hailand.}, keywords = {{T}icks ; arbovirus ; spatial distribution ; {GIS} ; {S}av{GIS}© ; {T}hailand ; {THAILANDE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {G}eoinformatics}, volume = {5}, numero = {1}, pages = {57--62}, year = {2009}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00007444}, }
