@article{PAR00005956, title = {{T}axonomy of {A}tlantic {C}entral {A}frican {O}rchids 1. {A} {N}ew species of {A}ngraecum sect. {P}ectinaria ({O}rchidaceae) from {G}abon and {E}quatorial {G}uinea}, author = {{S}tevart, {T}. and {C}awoy, {V}. and {D}amen, {T}. and {D}roissart, {V}incent}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{D}uring a recent survey of {A}tlantic central {A}frican orchids, we collected four orchid specimens in {R}io {M}uni ({E}quatorial {G}uinea) that share the general morphology of {A}ngraecum gabonense, the most frequent member of {A}ngraecum section {P}ectinaria in {C}entral {A}frica, but differ in leaf shape and flower size. {F}urther inspection of specimens deposited at the {W}ageningen herbarium and cultivated in their greenhouse led to the discovery of additional specimens from the {M}onts {D}oudou area in {G}abon. {C}omparison with other {A}ngraecum specimens indicate that these collections represent a new species, which we describe here as {A}ngraecum atlanticum, the fifth species of {A}ngraecum section {P}ectinaria recorded in central {A}frica. {T}he new species is restricted to submontane forests covering the mountain chain situated along the coasts of {G}abon and {E}quatorial {G}uinea. {T}he distinguishing features of the species include its leaves, which are more widely spaced than {A}. gabonese, and are 2.2 mm wide; its petals and sepals, which are slightly longer than the lip; its spur, which is somewhat inflated in the middle; and its larger ovary. {I}nformation on the ecology, phenology and distribution of {A}ngraecum atlanticum is presented, along with a preliminary conservation assessment using the {IUCN} {R}ed {L}ist {C}ategories and {C}riteria.}, keywords = {{A}frica ; conservation assessment ; {M}onts {D}oudou ; {R}io {M}uni ; submontane forest}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{S}ystematic {B}otany}, volume = {35}, numero = {2}, pages = {252--256}, ISSN = {0363-6445}, year = {2010}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00005956}, }
