@article{PAR00004769, title = {{T}rends in food intake in {F}rench children from 1999 to 2007 : results from the {INCA} (etude {I}ndividuelle {N}ationale des {C}onsommations {A}limentaires) dietary surveys}, author = {{L}ioret, {S}. and {D}ubuisson, {C}. and {D}ufour, {A}. and {T}ouvier, {M}. and {C}alamassi-{T}ran, {G}. and {M}aire, {B}ernard and {V}olatier, {J}. {L}. and {L}afay, {L}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he objectives of the present study were to assess the intake of different food groups in {F}rench children aged 3-17 years (it 1455), and to analyse trends since a dietary survey undertaken 8 years ago. {D}ietary intake was evaluated using data from the 2006-7 cross-sectional {INCA}2 national dietary survey (etude {I}ndividuelle {N}ationale sur les {C}onsommations {A}limentaires), based on a 7 d food record. {D}ietary intake (percentage of subjects consuming the food group and amount eaten) was assessed for thirty-nine food categories. {W}e observed variations in food consumption by age, sex, {N}orth-{S}outh regional gradient, seasonal period and educational level of the responding parent. {T}rends in dietary intake between 1999 and 2007 were determined by comparing the {INCA}1 (it 1126) and the {INCA}2 surveys. {B}oth {S}urveys had been carried out using the same methodology. {T}he findings showed a decrease in energy intake in children aged 3-14 years, due to a reduction in the consumption of foods of animal origin and sweetened products. {I}n adolescents aged 15-17 years, energy intake remained rather stable; during this 8-year period, the consumption of meat decreased, whereas the consumption of savoury snacks such as sandwiches and hamburgers significantly increased. {T}hese trends occurred during a time of growing concern about overweight and the associated co-morbidities in {F}rance. {A} number of public health measures were implemented over this period to improve dietary habits and physical activity patterns in children and adults. {T}he periodic monitoring of dietary patterns through the {INCA} surveys is an essential part of the surveillance network in {F}rance.}, keywords = {{T}rends ; {F}ood intake ; {C}hildren ; {D}ietary surveys ; {M}onitoring ; {F}rance}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{B}ritish {J}ournal of {N}utrition}, volume = {103}, numero = {4}, pages = {585--601}, ISSN = {0007-1145}, year = {2010}, DOI = {10.1017/s0007114509992078}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00004769}, }
