@article{PAR00004444, title = {{D}esulfocurvus vexinensis gen. nov., sp nov., a sulfate-reducing bacterium isolated from a deep subsurface aquifer}, author = {{K}louche, {N}. and {B}asso, {O}. and {L}ascourreges, {J}. {F}. and {C}ayol, {J}-{L}. and {T}homas, {P}. and {F}auque, {G}. and {F}ardeau, {M}arie-{L}aure and {M}agot, {M}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} novel anaerobic, chemo-organotrophic bacterium, designated {VN}s36({T}), was isolated from a well that collected water from a deep saline aquifer used for underground gas storage at a depth of 830 m in the {P}aris {B}asin, {F}rance. {C}ells were curved motile rods or vibrios (3.0-5.0x0.5 mu m). {S}train {VN}s36({T}) grew at temperatures between 20 and 50 degrees {C} (optimum 37 degrees {C}) and at p{H} values between 5.0 and 9.0 (optimum 6.9). {I}t did not require salt for growth, but tolerated up to 20 g {N}a{C}l l(-1) (optimum 2 g l(-1)). {I}n the presence of sulfate, strain {VN}s36({T}) used lactate, formate and pyruvate as carbon and energy sources. {T}he main fermentation products from lactate were acetate, {H}-2 and {CO}2. {S}ulfate, thiosulfate and sulfite were used as electron acceptors, but not sulfur. {T}he genomic {DNA} {G}+{C} content of strain {VN}s36({T}) was 67.2 mol%. {P}hylogenetic analysis of the 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence indicated that strain {VN}s36({T}) was affiliated with the family {D}esulfovibrionaceae within the class {D}eltaproteobacteria. {O}n the basis of 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence comparisons, {DNA} {G} + {C} content and the absence of desulfoviridin in cell extracts, it is proposed that strain {VN}s36({T}) be assigned to a new genus, {D}esulfocurvus gen. nov., as a representative of a novel species, {D}esulfocurvus vexinensis sp. nov. {T}he type species of this genus is {D}esulfocurvus vexinensis with the type strain {VN}s36({T}) (= {DSM} 17965({T}) = {JCM} 14038({T})).}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {59}, numero = {{P}art 12}, pages = {3100--3104}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2009}, DOI = {10.1099/ijs.0.010363-0}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00004444}, }
