@article{PAR00003605, title = {{D}esulfovibrio tunisiensis sp. nov., a novel weakly halotolerant, sulfate-reducing bacterium isolated from exhaust water of a {T}unisian oil refinery}, author = {{B}en {A}li {G}am, {Z}ouhaier and {O}ueslati, {R}. and {A}bdelkafi, {S}lim and {C}asalot, {L}aurence and {T}holozan, {J}ean {L}uc and {L}abat, {M}arc}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} novel weakly halotolerant, sulfate-reducing bacterium, designated strain {RB}22({T}), was isolated from exhaust water of a {T}unisian oil refinery. {C}ells of strain {RB}22({T}) were {G}ram-negative, motile, vibrio-shaped or sigmoid and non-spore-forming, and occurred singly or in chains. {S}train {RB}22({T}) grew between 15 and 45 degrees {C} (optimum, 37 degrees {C}) and at p{H} 4.5 to 9 (optimum, p{H} 7). {N}a{C}l was not required for growth, but the strain tolerated high {N}a{C}l concentrations (up to 70 g l(-1)) with an optimum of 40 g l(-1). {S}ulfate, thiosulfate, sulfite and elemental sulfur served as electron acceptors, but not fumarate. {N}itrate and nitrite were not reduced. {S}train {RB}22({T}) utilized lactate, formate, fumarate, succinate, glycerol, {H}-2 + {CO}2 and methanol as substrates. {T}he {DNA} {G} + {C} content was found to be 59.6 mol%. {P}hylogenetic analysis based on the 16{S} r{RNA} gene revealed that the isolate was a member of the genus {D}esulfovibrio, with no close relatives at the species level (16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence similarity of less than 95%). {S}train {RB}22({T}) exhibited levels of 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence similarity of 94.6 and 94.12% to the type strains of the closely related species {D}esulfovibrio aespoeensis and {D}esulfovibrio dechloracetivorans, respectively. {O}n the basis of genotypic and phylogenetic characteristics, and significant phenotypic differences, we suggest that strain {RB}22({T}) represents a novel species, for which the name {D}esulfovibrio tunisiensis sp. nov. is proposed. {T}he type strain is {RB}22({T}) (={NCIMB} 14400({T})={JCM} 15076({T})={DSM} 19275({T})).}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {59}, numero = {{P}art 5}, pages = {1059--1063}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2009}, DOI = {10.1099/ijs.0.000943-0}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00003605}, }
