  abstract = {{B}amanophis, a new genus for the {W}est {A}frican colubrid {P}eriops dorri {L}ataste, 1888 ({R}eptilia: {S}quamata: {C}olubrinae). - {B}amanophis gen. n. is a monotypic colubrine genus from the {S}ahel to {G}uinea {S}avanna. {I}t is well defined by external morphology, osteology, and hemipenis features. {B}. dorri ({L}ataste) shows a variety of scale and skull character states unknown in {A}frotropical, {P}alaearctic, and {S}aharo-{S}indian racers and related genera. {N}oteworthy are differences in midbody dorsal scale row number frequencies between males and females and significant sexual dimorphism of ventral counts in {S}enegal. {T}he distribution of {D}orr's {R}acer is reviewed and new locality records from {G}uinea and {S}enegal as well as ecological data are presented.},
