  abstract = {{A}n assessment has been carried out on the profitability of fishing for pelagic species around the fish aggregating devices ({F}.{A}.{D}.) moored in {V}anuatu, and more specifically on {E}fate. {A} balance of accounts covers the cost and income on a fishing trip basis. {I}deally, an average of 100 trips per annum should be achieved to offset the investment. {O}n {E}fate, fuel consumption costs during the fishing trip account for 56% of the overall costs of the trip. {T}he fluctuation in income follows the fluctuating levels of production depending on the amount of time spent trolling around the rafts.
