@article{fdi:42807, title = {{P}odotreme affinities of {R}aninoides sp. and {L}yreidus brevifrons : evidence from spermatozoal ultrastructure ({C}rustacea : {B}rachyura : {R}aninoidea)}, author = {{J}amieson, {B}.{G}.{M}. and {G}uinot, {D}. and {R}icher de {F}orges, {B}ertrand}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{S}permatozoal synapomorphies which singly or collectively distinguish #{R}aninoidea$ are : (1) the presence of single (#{R}anina$), #{R}aninoides$) or multiple (#{L}yreidus$) keel-like projections of the acrosomal zone (#{R}anina$, #{R}aninoides$) and an homologous large outer zone in #{L}yreidus$; (3) poor differentiation of the operculum from the capsule (autapomorphy); (4) a very well developed, perforate subopercular zone, of variable form; (5) presence of unique inward longitudinal projections (septa or corrugations) in the wall of the subacrosomal chamber (autapomorphy). {S}hared, presumably synapomorphic characters of #{R}anina$ and #{R}aninoides$ but not of #{L}yreidus$ within the #{R}aninidae$, are (1) branching of some of the subacrosomal septa (unbranched in #{L}yreidus$); (2) the subspheroidal form of the acrosome in #{R}anina$ with a lenth : width ratio ({L}:{W}) of {O}.76, and, although slightly more depressed form in #{L}yreidus$ ({L}:{W} 0.52).
