%X The risky nature of navigation conditions, of the reproductive behaviour of fish species and as a result of catches, confers a certain flexibility to the social relationships which are built within the framework of small-scale fishing. An entire part of the coast becomes divided up among family groups, within which parental and affinity become the institutionalised methods of balancing men and resources. The balance between fishermen and the workforce requirements for fishing activities is controlled by a system that is more flexible than the demographic control of the farming community.
