  abstract = {{T}his paper presents a review of the development, especially after the 1970s, of social science research on small-scale fisheries in {P}ara {S}tate, {A}mazonia {R}egion, {B}razil. {T}he complexity of fisheries social organisation and the changing processes in the {A}mazon {B}asin are the factors which have inspired and induced the studies. {S}ome suggestions for interdisciplinary research are presented, in order to improve the knowledge of small-scale fisheries and of interventions in this sector.
