  abstract = {{H}olothurians are exploited for "sea cucumbers" production by traditional fisheries located in the {T}ropical {I}ndo-{P}acific-region. {T}he structure and characteristics of these fisheries have been assessed in {N}ew {C}aledonia, other {S}outh {P}acific countries and at the world scale. {T}heir temporal variability, estimated from the fishery and trade statistics, is very high. {T}he relative importance of the different producing countries varies according to changes in the political, economical and sociological conditions as well as the state of the biological resource.
