The interactions between the different human factors in artisanal fisheries and the complementary roles they play is now a well-recognized fact. The role played by the fish-wives in capital and operating investment can be attributed to the high costs of fishing equipment, the inadequate formal financial structures and the women's preoccupation with ensuring the continuity of their activities. Their intervention is based on criteria of mutual confidence, family ties, friendship, among others. This informal system of credit resolves the immediate problems of fishermen in obtaining fishing equipment by the fish-wives. However, any intervention aiming at banning this type of exploitation must take care to maintain the relationships between the fishermen and the fish-wives. It should aim to set up a simple and efficient systems for the two categories of worker. (Résumé d'auteur)
