@article{fdi:010088408, title = {{R}hizosphere bacterial populations of metallophyte plants in heavy metal-contaminated soils from mining areas in semiarid climate}, author = {{B}ennisse, {R}. and {L}abat, {M}arc and {E}lasli, {A}. and {B}rhada, {F}. and {C}handad, {F}. and {L}orquin, {J}. and {L}iegbott, {P}. {P}. and {H}ibti, {M}. and {Q}atibi, {A}. {I}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{R}hizosphere bacterial populations associated with four metallophyte plants in one of major polymetallic ({P}b-{Z}n-{C}u) semiarid {M}oroccan {H}ercynian province ({D}raa {S}far, {M}arrakech, {M}orocco) presenting long-term contamination mainly with {Z}n and {P}b were analysed and compared to selected control soils. {I}n the highly {Z}n-, {C}u-, {P}b- and {C}d-contaminated soils, the total number of culturable heterotrophic bacteria were found in low proportions (<2.6 x 10(2)-1.6 x 10(4) g(-1) soil). {T}his bacterial content was slightly similar to that found in moderately polluted and controls soils (6.7 x 10(4) - 5.8 x 10(6)). {H}owever, the bacterial diversity and the rhizosphere/soil ratio, which compares the bacterial content (or bacterial charge) around the metallophyte plants with that in non-rhizosphere soil, were the bacteriological parameters mostly affected by heavy metal contamination. {T}he chronic {Z}inc-stress results in an increase of tolerance to this metal of both the rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere bacterial communities. {H}owever, in general, the rhizosphere bacterial populations exhibited less tolerance to {Z}n toxicity than the bacterial population of non-rhizosphere soils. {T}his result suggests that toxic effects of {Z}n decrease in the rhizosphere soils of the metallophyte plants.}, keywords = {bacteria ; heavy metals ; metallophyte plants ; rhizosphere ; semiarid climate ; {Z}n tolerance}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{W}orld {J}ournal of {M}icrobiology and {B}iotechnology}, volume = {20}, numero = {7}, pages = {759--766}, ISSN = {0959-3993}, year = {2004}, DOI = {10.1007/s11274-004-5812-2}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010088408}, }
