@article{fdi:010088399, title = {{D}esulfovibrio marrakechensis sp. nov., a 1,4-tyrosol-oxidizing, sulfate-reducing bacterium isolated from olive mill wastewater}, author = {{C}hamkh, {F}. and {S}proer, {C}. and {L}emos, {P}. {C}. and {B}esson, {S}. and {E}l {A}sli, {A}. {G}. and {B}ennisse, {R}. and {L}abat, {M}arc and {R}eis, {M}. and {Q}atibi, {A}. {I}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} novel mesophilic sulfate-reducing bacterium, {EMSSDQ}(4)({T}), was isolated from olive mill wastewater in the semi-arid region of {M}orocco ({M}arrakech). {C}ells were {G}ram-negative, catalase-positive, straight rods that were non-motile and non-spore-forming and contained cytochrome c(3) and desulfoviridin. {T}he {DNA} {G} + {C} content was 65.1 mol%. {P}hylogenetic analysis based on 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequences revealed that the isolate was a member of the genus {D}esulfovibrio with {D}esulfovibrio carbinoliphilus {D}41({T}), {D}esulfovibrio alcoholivorans {SPSNT}, {D}esulfovibrio fructosivorans {JJ}({T}) and {D}esulfovibrio carbinolicus {EDK}82({T}) as the most closely related strains with validly published names. {I}n addition to the classical substrates used by {D}esulfovibrio species, the isolate oxidized 1,4-tyrosol, one of the most abundant phenolic compounds occurring in olive mill wastewater, to 4-hydroxyphenylacetate without ring cleavage. {D}. alcoholivorans {SPSNT} was also found to carry out this reaction. {U}nder air, strain {EMSSDQ}(4)({T}) exhibited limited growth on lactate and yeast extract in the absence of sulfate. {O}n the basis of genotypic and phenotypic characteristics, it is proposed that the isolate represents a novel species, {D}esulfovibrio marrakechensis sp. nov. {T}he type strain is {EMSSDQ}(4)({T}) (={DSM} 19337({T}) ={ATCC} {BAA}-1562({T})).}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {59}, numero = {{P}art 5}, pages = {936--942}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2009}, DOI = {10.1099/ijs.0.003822-0}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010088399}, }
