@inproceedings{fdi:010087876, title = {{S}cientific diving in {F}rance : an overview of the current practices in science [poster]}, author = {{H}ocd{\'e}, {R}{\'e}gis and {T}houzeau, {G}. and {B}ourquin, {S}ophie and {B}orel, {L}. and {C}oulange, {M}. and {F}{\'e}ral, {J}.{P}. and {F}eunteun, {E}. and {J}acquet, {S}. and {L}e {B}ras, {P}. and {L}e {G}all, {L}. and {L}egrand, {S}. and {L}enfant, {P}. and {L}epage, {M}. and {P}lay, {C}. and {S}aragoni, {G}. and {S}chull, {Q}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he {F}rench {N}ational {C}ommittee for {S}cientific {D}iving ({CNPS}) takes on different tasks including acting as an observatory of occupational scientific diving practices and innovations ({T}houzeau et al., 2019). {S}ince 1991 in {F}rance, scientific diving has been recognized by law as an occupational sector and is therefore regulated with the aim to reduce the hyperbaric risk. {C}urrently, {F}rench scientific diving encompasses many fields such as life sciences and ecology, geosciences, social & cultural sciences including archeology, health & food, engineering sciences, energy... {D}ue to the existence of overseas territories - with {F}rance's maritime spaces representing the world's second largest exclusive economic zone - {F}rench territories display an extensive variety of submarine habitats. {F}urthermore, the historical richness of scientific diving in {F}rance has led the {F}rench scientific diving community to be involved in all oceans worldwide. {A}ll subaquatic ecosystems, from the polar regions to the tropical belt, from drowned karsts to freshwater and high altitude lakes, including mesocosms and artificial structures are studied by diving scientists. {O}n top of the traditional diving methods (apnea, open circuit and hookah) scientific diving benefits in recent years from the use of closed-circuit rebreathers but also from combining {CCR} and saturation methods, which greatly enhanced the study of the mesophotic zones. {I}n light of the diversity of environments, disciplines and scientific issues, scientific divers are continuously innovating to perform outstanding research. {T}his presentation will outline the recent work of the last decade highlighting the importance of scientific diving in science (in {F}rance).}, keywords = {{FRANCE}}, numero = {}, pages = {1 multigr.}, booktitle = {}, year = {2023}, DOI = {10.23708/fdi:010087876}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010087876}, }
