@article{fdi:010086502, title = {{O}ptimization of adult mosquito trap settings to monitor populations of {A}edes and {C}ulex mosquitoes, vectors of arboviruses in {L}a {R}eunion}, author = {{C}laudel, {I}ris and {B}rouazin, {R}onan and {L}ancelot, {R}. and {G}ouagna, {L}ouis-{C}l{\'e}ment and {D}upraz, {M}. and {B}aldet, {T}. and {B}ouyer, {J}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{C}ompetent arbovirus vectors are found in the culicid mosquito fauna of south-west {I}ndian {O}cean ({SWIO}) islands. {I}n {L}a {R}eunion, {A}edes albopictus and {A}edes aegypti mosquitoes are known vectors of dengue and chikungunya viruses. {C}ulex quinquefasciatus is a potential vector of {R}ift {V}alley fever and {W}est {N}ile viruses. {T}o prepare a vector-control field trial against {A}e. aegypti, this study aimed at identifying the best trapping strategy to catch adult {A}e. aegypti, using {BG}-{S}entinel traps ({B}iogents, {G}ermany). {I}t was implemented in two sites in southern {L}a {R}eunion. {C}atches of {A}e. albopictus and {C}x. quinquefasciatus mosquitoes were also recorded. {A} {L}atin square design was used to estimate the detection probability and the apparent daily density-according to the {BG}-{S}entinel trapping strategy: none, carbon dioxide ({CO}2), a commercial attractant-{BG}-{L}ure ({B}iogents, {G}ermany), or both. {T}he use of {CO}2 alone was associated with a higher detection probability for {A}e. aegypti and {C}x. quinquefasciatus mosquitoes, as well as a large increase in their apparent density. {T}raps with {BG}-{L}ure-alone or in combination with {CO}2, did not improve the detection probability of {A}e. aegypti and {C}x. quinquefasciatus mosquitoes. {T}he same result was found for male {A}e. albopictus. {F}or females, baiting {BG}-{S}entinel traps with {CO}2 or {BG}-{L}ure had no significant effect. {T}he same apparent densities were found for {A}e. aegypti and {A}e. albopictus mosquitoes in both study sites-where {A}e. aegypti mosquitoes were found at very low densities during previous surveys.}, keywords = {{REUNION}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{S}cientific {R}eports - {N}ature}, volume = {12}, numero = {1}, pages = {19544 [10 ]}, ISSN = {2045-2322}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.1038/s41598-022-24191-9}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010086502}, }
