@article{fdi:010085084, title = {{P}otential of the coffee endophytic {B}acillus cereus sensu lato strain {CCBLR}15 to control the plant-parasitic nematode {R}adopholus duriophilus}, author = {{D}uong, {B}enoit and {M}arraccini, {P}. and {E}tienne, {H}. and {V}illain, {L}. and {H}oang, {G}. {T}. and {K}hong, {G}. {N}. and {L}ebrun, {M}. and {D}uponnois, {R}obin}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}acillus cereus sensu lato strain {CCBLR}15 is highly efficient in inducing in vitro the mortality of coffee-parasitic nematodes, including {P}ratylenchus coffeae and {R}adopholus duriophilus. {I}n the present study, this strain was further characterised to investigate (1) its taxonomic position, (2) the secreted/non-secreted nature of its nematicidal compounds, and (3) its in planta biocontrol capacity towards {R}. duriophilus. {F}irstly, analysis of 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequences and motility test indicated that {CCBLR}15 was closely related to {B}. cereus sensu stricto. {S}econdly, nematodes separate expositions in vitro to {CCBLR}15 culture filtrate and cell lysate revealed that nematicidal activity was attributed to compounds released after bacterial cell lysis. {T}hirdly, {CCBLR}15 nematode biocontrol capacity was studied using three {C}offea arabica cultivars, either seed- or cutting-propagated. {P}lants were therefore characterised by different developmental stages, referred to as 'early' and 'advanced', with respectively 2-3 and 6-8 leaf pairs. {A}dditionally, plants were grown in unsterilised soil, with a one-month delay between inoculations of bacteria and nematodes to assess the persistence of the nematicidal effects. {T}he presence of {R}. duriophilus in roots decreased plant growth only in one cultivar whose plants were inoculated at the 'early' stage. {N}onetheless, {CCBLR}15 pre-inoculation significantly reduced the number of nematodes in roots of all cultivars and inhibited the negative effects of nematodes in 'early'-inoculated plants. {T}hese results demonstrate the capacity of {CCBLR}15 to control {R}. duriophilus and constitute an important step before studying the persistence of its biocontrol effects on a longer period or after plants establishment in the field.}, keywords = {{B}acillus cereus sensu lato ; biocontrol ; {C}offea arabica ; coffee ; endophyte ; nematodes}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{B}iocontrol {S}cience and {T}echnology}, volume = {32}, numero = {8}, pages = {971--988}, ISSN = {0958-3157}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.1080/09583157.2022.2070600}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010085084}, }
