@article{fdi:010084715, title = {{F}rom the {M}editerranean to the {P}acific : re-circumscription towards {N}otelaea s.l. and historical biogeography of a generic complex in {O}leinae ({O}leaceae)}, author = {{D}upin, {J}. and {H}ong-{W}a, {C}. and {P}illon, {Y}ohan and {B}esnard, {G}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}ackling the complicated infrafamilial classification of the economically important {O}leaceae requires a piecemeal approach that addresses generic circumscriptions. {H}ere, focusing on the distinct clade formed by the generic complex {N}estegis, {N}otelaea, {O}smanthus, {P}hillyrea and {P}icconia in subtribe {O}leinae, we aim to elucidate their boundaries and relationships and to evaluate their biogeographic history in light of their peculiar disjunct distribution in the {M}acaronesian, {M}editerranean and {P}acific regions. {O}n the basis of phylogenomic data from plastid and nuclear {DNA} of an extensive sampling, the results show six subclades in this generic complex, which are also geographical segregates found in {A}ustralia ({N}otelaea), {H}awaiian {I}slands ({N}estegis sandwicensis), {M}acaronesia ({P}hillyrea and {P}icconia), {M}editerranean {R}egion ({P}hillyrea), {N}ew {C}aledonia ({O}smanthus section {N}otosmanthus) and {N}ew {Z}ealand ({N}estegis s.s.). {A}ccounting for broad morphological overlaps in this clade, we recognize three genera ({P}hillyrea, {P}icconia and {N}otelaea s.l.), subsuming all {P}acific taxa under {N}otelaea. {M}olecular dating and biogeographic analyses indicate that this clade originated in {E}urasia during the {E}arly {M}iocene (mean 23.2 {M}ya, 95% {HPD}: 23.8-14.7). {F}inally, dispersal (rather than continental vicariance) is probably the main explanation for the global, disjunct distribution of this group, with island-hopping and local extinction as the hallmarks of its evolutionary history.}, keywords = {{ZONE} {MEDITERRANEENNE} ; {A}zores ; {C}anary {I}slands ; {M}adeira ; morphology ; museomics ; {N}estegis ; {O}smanthus ; {P}hillyrea ; {P}icconia ; {Z}ealandia ; {ACORES} ; {CANARIAS} ; {PACIFIQUE} ; {MADERE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{B}otanical {J}ournal of the {L}innean {S}ociety}, volume = {[{E}arly access]}, numero = {}, pages = {[18 p.]}, ISSN = {0024-4074}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.1093/botlinnean/boac024}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010084715}, }
