@article{fdi:010083930, title = {{D}raft nuclear genome and complete mitogenome of the {M}editerranean corn borer, {S}esamia nonagrioides, a major pest of maize}, author = {{M}uller, {H}. and {O}gereau, {D}. and {D}a {L}age, {J}. {L}. and {C}apdevielle, {C}laire and {P}ollet, {N}. and {F}ortuna, {T}aiadjana and {J}eannette, {R}{\'e}mi and {K}aiser, {L}. and {G}ilbert, {C}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he {M}editerranean corn borer ({S}esamia nonagrioides, {N}octuidae, {L}epidoptera) is a major pest of maize in {E}urope and {A}frica. {H}ere, we report an assembly of the nuclear and mitochondrial genome of a pool of inbred males and females third-instar larvae, based on short- and long-read sequencing. {T}he complete mitochondrial genome is 15,330 by and contains all expected 13 and 24 protein-coding and {RNA} genes, respectively. {T}he nuclear assembly is 1021 {M}b, composed of 2553 scaffolds and it has an {N}50 of 1105 kb. {I}t is more than twice larger than that of all {N}octuidae species sequenced to date, mainly due to a higher repeat content. {A} total of 17,230 protein-coding genes were predicted, including 15,776 with {I}nter{P}ro domains. {W}e provide detailed annotation of genes involved in sex determination (doublesex, insulin-like growth factor 2 m{RNA}-binding protein, and {P}-element somatic inhibitor) and of alpha-amylase genes possibly involved in interaction with parasitoid wasps. {W}e found no evidence of recent horizontal transfer of bracovirus genes from parasitoid wasps. {T}hese genome assemblies provide a solid molecular basis to study insect genome evolution and to further develop biocontrol strategies against {S}. nonagrioides.}, keywords = {genome assembly ; {L}epidoptera ; crop pest ; sex determination ; alpha-amylase ; bracoviruses ; {PAYS} {MEDITERRANEENS} ; {AFRIQUE} {SUBSAHARIENNE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{G}3 - {G}enes {G}enomes {G}enetics}, volume = {11}, numero = {7}, pages = {jkab155 [8 ]}, ISSN = {2160-1836}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.1093/g3journal/jkab155}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010083930}, }
