  abstract = {{T}he taxonomy of {A}rgophyllum ({A}rgophyllaceae) in {N}ew {C}aledonia is reviewed here. {A}ll names validly published in {A}rgophyllum in this archipelago are discussed and lectotypified when necessary. {A} new species is described, {A}rgophyllum riparium ({T}he {LSID} for the name {A}rgophyllum riparium is: 77216335-1) {P}illon and {H}equet sp. nov. {A}rgophyllum grunowii and {A}. ellipticum are both species complexes in which several species previously recognized are included here as well. {S}even species are recognized in {N}ew {C}aledonia: {A}. brevipetalum, {A}. ellipticum, {A}. grunowii, {A}. montanum, {A}. nitidum, {A}. riparium and {A}. vernicosum, all endemic. {L}eaf nickel content of {A}. riparium can exceed 1000 mu g center dot g(-1), which makes this species a nickel hyperaccumulator. {M}easurements with a handheld {X}-{R}ay {F}luorescence ({XRF}) spectrometer confirmed that this was also the case for all other species from {N}ew {C}aledonia, except {A}. nitidum. {A}n identification key of {N}ew {C}aledonian species is provided.},
