({C}lusiaceae), with an emended description of {G}. virgata {V}ieill. ex {G}uillaumin}, author = {{M}unzinger, {J}{\'e}r{\^o}me and {B}ruy, {D}avid and {P}ignal, {M}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} new species, {G}arcinia urceolata {M}unzinger, {B}ruy & {M}.{P}ignal, sp. nov. ({C}lusiaceae), is described from {N}ew {C}aledonia. {I}t is restricted to {N}orth {P}rovince, from the {T}chamba valley in the south to {M}andjelia in the north of the main island of {G}rande-{T}erre, occurring in dense humid rainforests on non-ultramafic substrate. {M}aterial of this small tree species was first collected more than fifty years ago but was confused with {G}. virgata {V}ieill. ex {G}uillaumin as both taxa have small leaves. {G}arcinia urceolata, sp. nov. differs from {G}. virgata in a number of features of the leaves, flowers and fruits. {G}arcinia urceolata, sp. nov. also grows at higher elevation and in wetter conditions than {G}. virgata. {B}oth species are purported to have dehiscent fruit, along with other {N}ew {C}aledonian members of the genus, a distinctive character that was used to justify the description of the genus {S}eptogarcinia {K}osterm., which is no longer regarded as distinct from {G}arcinia {L}. {L}ine drawings and colour photos are provided for both the new species and for {G}. virgata for comparison, along with a preliminary risk of extinction assessment for each of them, which indicates that {G}. urceolata, sp. nov. is {V}ulnerable ({VU}) while {G}. virgata is {N}ear {T}hreatened ({NT}).}, keywords = {{C}lusiaceae ; {G}arcinia ; {N}ew {C}aledonia ; conservation ; lectotypification ; new species ; {NOUVELLE} {CALEDONIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{A}dansonia}, volume = {43}, numero = {6}, pages = {49--60}, ISSN = {1280-8571}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.5252/adansonia2021v43a6}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010081319}, }
