@article{fdi:010081259, title = {{P}roterozoic magmatic events recorded in {A}r-40/{A}r-39 data from the northern part of the {K}edougou {K}enieba {I}nlier (eastern {S}enegal)}, author = {{S}agna, {I}. and {Q}uidelleur, {X}. and {D}ioh, {E}. and {G}illot, {P}. {Y}. and {L}efevre, {J}. {C}. and {B}aratoux, {L}enka and {D}iallo, {D}. {P}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{W}e present a thermal history of the {K}edougou {K}enieba {I}nlier (eastern {S}enegal), the western-central outcropping part of the {W}est {A}frican {C}raton, based on {A}r-40/{A}r-39 analyses performed on hornblende, biotite, and {K}-feldspar minerals from {P}aleoproterozoic plutonic rocks. {A}r-40/{A}r-39 age spectra obtained for hornblendes and biotites range between 2055 +/- 26 and 2028 +/- 28 {M}a, in very good consistency. {T}hey suggest that magmatism in the {K}edougou {K}enieba {I}nlier happened at the end of the {E}burnean {O}rogeny (2.25-2.00 {G}a). {T}aking into account previous zircon {U}-{P}b ages, these new results imply that initial cooling from magmatic temperature to about 300 degrees {C} (biotite closure temperature) occurred rapidly, and that these rocks did not experience any subsequent reheating event above 300 degrees {C}. {O}n the other hand, {A}r-40/{A}r-39 age spectra obtained on {K}-feldspars display strongly disturbed patterns revealing that these minerals experienced argon loss due to re-heating events. {A}ltogether, these data constrain a thermal history for the studied area involving two thermal events with temperatures around 275 and 225 degrees {C}, at about 1750 and 1500 {M}a, respectively. {T}hese thermal events, previously inferred from {U}-{P}b ages of intruding mafic dykes, can be related to aborted attempts of continental breakup, as the {W}est {A}frican {C}raton remained attached to {B}altica and {A}mazonia cratons during the 1.8-1.3 {G}a interval.}, keywords = {{A}r-40/{A}r-39 thermochronology ; {P}roterozoic ; {W}est {A}frican {C}raton ; {S}enegal ; {K}edougou {K}enieba {I}nlier ; {SENEGAL} ; {KEDOUGOU} {KENIEBA} {REGION}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {A}frican {E}arth {S}ciences}, volume = {175}, numero = {}, pages = {104109 [8 ]}, ISSN = {1464-343{X}}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.1016/j.jafrearsci.2021.104109}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010081259}, }
