@article{fdi:010081064, title = {{TAL} effector repertoires of strains of {X}anthomonas phaseoli pv. manihotis in commercial {C}assava crops reveal high diversity at the country scale}, author = {{Z}arate-{C}haves, {C}. {A}. and {O}sorio-{R}odriguez, {D}. and {M}ora, {R}. {E}. and {P}erez-{Q}uintero, {A}. {L}. and {D}ereeper, {A}lexis and {R}estrepo, {S}. and {L}opez, {C}. {E}. and {S}zurek, {B}oris and {B}ernal, {A}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}ranscription activator-like effectors ({TALE}s) play a significant role for pathogenesis in several xanthomonad pathosystems. {X}anthomonas phaseoli pv. manihotis ({X}pm), the causal agent of {C}assava {B}acterial {B}light ({CBB}), uses {TALE}s to manipulate host metabolism. {I}nformation about {X}pm {TALE}s and their target genes in cassava is scarce, but has been growing in the last few years. {W}e aimed to characterize the {TALE} diversity in {C}olombian strains of {X}pm and to screen for {TALE}-targeted gene candidates. {W}e selected eighteen {X}pm strains based on neutral genetic diversity at a country scale to depict the {TALE} diversity among isolates from cassava productive regions. {RFLP} analysis showed that {X}pm strains carry {TAL}omes with a bimodal size distribution, and affinity-based clustering of the sequenced {TALE}s condensed this variability mainly into five clusters. {W}e report on the identification of 13 novel variants of {TALE}s in {X}pm, as well as a functional variant with 22 repeats that activates the susceptibility gene {M}e{SWEET}10a, a previously reported target of {TAL}20({X}am668). {T}ranscriptomics and {EBE} prediction analyses resulted in the selection of several {TALE}-targeted candidate genes and two potential cases of functional convergence. {T}his study provides new bases for assessing novel potential {TALE} targets in the {X}pm-cassava interaction, which could be important factors that define the fate of the infection.}, keywords = {cassava bacterial blight ; {SWEET} ; host target genes ; susceptibility ; transcriptomics ; {EBE} prediction}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{M}icroorganisms}, volume = {9}, numero = {2}, pages = {315 [26 ]}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.3390/microorganisms9020315}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010081064}, }
