@article{fdi:010079787, title = {{K}dr genotyping in {A}edes aegypti from {B}razil on a nation-wide scale from 2017 to 2018}, author = {{C}osta, {M}. {M}. and {C}ampos, {K}. {B}. and {B}rito, {L}. {P}. and {R}oux, {E}mmanuel and {R}odovalho, {C}. {M}. and {B}ellinato, {D}. {F}. and {L}ima, {J}. {B}. {P}. and {M}artins, {A}. {J}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}nsecticide resistance is currently a threat to the control of {A}edes agypti, the main vector of arboviruses in urban centers. {M}utations in the voltage gated sodium channel ({N}a{V}), known as kdr (knockdown resistance), constitute an important selection mechanism for resistance against pyrethroids. {I}n the present study, we investigated the kdr distribution for the {V}al1016{I}le and {P}he1534{C}ys alterations in {A}e. aegypti from 123 {B}razilian municipalities, based on {SNP} genotyping assays in over 5,500 mosquitoes. {T}he alleles {N}a{VS}-(1016{V}al(+) + 1534{P}he(+)), {N}a{VR}1 -(1016{V}al(+) + 1534{C}ys(kdr)) and {N}a{VR}2-(1016{I}le(kdr) + 1534{C}ys(kdr)) were consistently observed, whereas kdr alleles have rapidly spread and increased in frequency. {N}a{VS} was the less frequent allele, mostly found in {N}ortheastern populations. {T}he highest allelic frequencies were observed for {N}a{VR}1, especially in the {N}orth, which was fixed in one {A}mazonian population. {T}he double kdr {N}a({V}){R}2 was more prevalent in the {C}entral-west and {S}outh-eastern populations. {W}e introduce the 'kdr index', which revealed significant spatial patterns highlighting two to three distinct {B}razilian regions. {T}he 410{L} kdr mutation was additionally evaluated in 25 localities, evidencing that it generally occurs in the {N}a{VR}2 allele. {T}his nationwide screening of a genetic mechanism for insecticide resistance is an important indication on how pyrethroid resistance in {A}e. aegypti is evolving in {B}razil.}, keywords = {{BRESIL}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{S}cientific {R}eports - {N}ature}, volume = {10}, numero = {1}, pages = {13267 [12 ]}, ISSN = {2045-2322}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.1038/s41598-020-70029-7}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010079787}, }
