@incollection{fdi:010078625, title = {{P}hytoplankton of the {S}ontecomapan lagoon, {V}eracruz, {M}exico}, author = {{F}igueroa {T}orres, {M}.{G}. and {A}lmanza {E}ncarnacion, {S}. and {F}errara-{G}uerrero, {M}.{J}. and {P}agano, {M}arc}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{P}hytoplankton plays a key role in aquatic ecosytems as an oxygen producer, a {CO}2 trap, a primary source of food in trophic chains and as an indicator of changes in the environment. {H}owever, despite this positive importance, it can also develop into harmful algal blooms. {W}ith the aim of increasing knowledge about this group of microorganisms in {M}exican aquatic ecosystems, a list of the phytoplankton species of the {S}ontecomapan {L}agoon was made indicating those that potentially can provoke red tides. {B}esides, the distribution and abundance of these species was studied in two seasons, the rainy one ({J}une, 2015) and the dry one ({F}ebruary, 2016) on eight sampling stations. {P}hytoplankton samples were collected with a {V}an {D}orn bottle to measure environmental factors (transparency, salinity, temperature, p{H} and dissolved oxygen). {A} list with 357 species with a clear dominance of diatoms (67.8%) and dinoflagellates (20.16%) was obtained from literature review and materials derived from this study. {A}mong them, 19.88% can potentially from red tides, and some of them are toxic. {F}rom the sample collected, 102 species of phytoplankton were recorded; 42 of them during the rainy season, 65 during the dry one and 7 pr{\'e}sents in both. {A}mong these species, 17 can potentially form red tides and from these, only two can be toxic for humans : {D}inophysis caudata and {L}yngbya majuscula. {T}he cluster analysis of the environmental factors showed the formation of four groups in the rainy season and three in the dry season, associated to teh salinity gradients.}, keywords = {{LAGON} ; {ZONE} {COTIERE} ; {FONCTIONNEMENT} {DE} {L}'{ECOSYSTEME} ; {PHYTOPLANCTON} ; {TAXONOMIE} ; {DENDROGRAMME} ; {MEXIQUE} ; {ZONE} {TROPICALE} ; {MEXIQUE} {GOLFE}}, booktitle = {{E}cology of the {S}ontecomapan lagoon, {V}eracruz}, numero = {}, pages = {107--135}, address = {{M}exico}, publisher = {{UAM} ; {IRD}}, series = {}, year = {2018}, ISBN = {9786072815155}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010078625}, }
