@article{fdi:010077882, title = {{M}olecular identification of protozoal and bacterial organisms in domestic animals and their infesting ticks from north-eastern {A}lgeria}, author = {{S}adeddine, {R}. and {D}iarra, {A}. {Z}. and {L}aroche, {M}. and {M}ediannikov, {O}leg and {R}ighi, {S}. and {B}enakhla, {A}. and {D}ahmana, {H}. and {R}aoult, {D}. and {P}arola, {P}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} molecular survey was undertaken to determine the presence of protozoal and bacterial organisms in 120 ticks and 87 blood samples collected from mammals in north-eastern {A}lgeria. {E}ight tick species were morphologically identified including 70 {R}hipicephalus ({B}oophilus) annulatus, 23 {R}hipicephalus bursa, five {R}hipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato, 11 {H}yalomma impeltatum, five {H}yalomma scupense, two {H}yalommma marginatum, one {H}yalomma anatolicum and three {I}xodes ricinus. {Q}uantitative {PCR} screening of the ticks showed that {T}heileria annulata, "{C}andidatus {E}hrlichia urmitei", {T}heileria buffeli and {A}naplasma platys were detected in {R}h. annulatus. {R}ickettsia massiliae and {A}naplasma ovis were detected in {R}h. sanguineus s.l. and {R}h. bursa. {R}ickettsia aeschlimannii was detected in {H}y. marginatum, {H}y. scupense and {H}y. impeltatum. {F}inally, "{C}andidatus {R}ickettsia barbariae" was detected in {R}h. bursa. {I}n the screening blood samples, {T}heileria equi, {T}.annulata, {T}. buffeli, {B}abesia bovis, {A}naplasma marginale, {A}. ovis and {B}orrelia spp. were detected in cattle. {T}heileria ovis, {T}. annulata, and {A}. ovis were detected in sheep. {I}n addition, {A}. ovis and {T}. equi were detected in goats and equidea respectively. {I}n this study, {T}. equi and "{C}andidatus {R}ickettsia barbariae" were identified for the first time in {A}lgeria as well as potential new species of {E}hrlichia and {A}naplasma. {A}lthough molecular detection does not indicate vector/reservoir competence when investigating ticks removed from animals, this study expands the knowledge of the microorganisms detected in ticks in north-east of {A}lgeria.}, keywords = {{P}iroplamorida ; {T}icks ; {R}ickettsia ; {B}abesia ; {A}lgeria ; {T}heileria ; {ALGERIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{T}icks and {T}ick-{B}orne {D}iseases}, volume = {11}, numero = {2}, pages = {art. 101330 [6 ]}, ISSN = {1877-959{X}}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.1016/j.ttbdis.2019.101330}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010077882}, }
