@article{fdi:010077460, title = {{D}o host plant and associated ant species affect microbial communities in myrmecophytes ?}, author = {{R}uiz-{G}onzalez, {M}. {X}. and {L}eroy, {C}{\'e}line and {D}ejean, {A}. and {G}ryta, {H}. and {J}argeat, {P}. and {C}arrion, {A}. {D}. {A}. and {O}rivel, {J}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A}nt-associated microorganisms can play crucial and often overlooked roles, and given the diversity of interactions that ants have developed, the study of the associated microbiomes is of interest. {W}e focused here on specialist plant-ant species of the genus {A}llomerus that grow a fungus to build galleries on their host-plant stems. {A}llomerus-inhabited domatia, thus, might be a rich arena for microbes associated with the ants, the plant, and the fungus. {W}e investigated the microbial communities present in domatia colonised by four arboreal ants: {A}llomerus decemarticulatus, {A}. octoarticulatus, {A}. octoarticulatus var. demerarae, and the non-fungus growing plant-ant {A}zteca sp. cf. depilis, inhabiting {H}irtella physophora or {C}ordia nodosa in {F}rench {G}uiana. {W}e hypothesized that the microbial community will differ among these species. {W}e isolated microorganisms from five colonies of each species, sequenced the 16{S} r{RNA} or {I}nternal {T}ranscribed{S}pacer ({ITS}) regions, and described both the alpha and beta diversities. {W}e identified 69 microbial taxa, which belong to five bacterial and two fungal phyla. {T}he most diverse phyla were {P}roteobacteria and {A}ctinobacteria. {T}he microbial community of {A}zteca cf. depilis and {A}llomerus spp. differed in composition and richness. {G}eographical distance affected microbial communities and richness but plant species did not. {A}ctinobacteria were only associated with {A}llomerus spp.}, keywords = {microbial diversity ; domatia ; {A}llomerus decemarticulatus ; {A}llomerus octoarticulatus ; {A}zteca sp. cf. depilis ; {C}ordia nodosa ; {H}irtella physophora ; {GUYANE} {FRANCAISE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nsects}, volume = {10}, numero = {11}, pages = {art. 391 [17 p.]}, year = {2019}, DOI = {10.3390/insects10110391}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010077460}, }
