@article{fdi:010076601, title = {{A}ptian-early {A}lbian sedimentation in the {E}ssaouira-{A}gadir basin, {W}estern {M}orocco}, author = {{J}aillard, {E}tienne and {K}assab, {W}. {H}. and {G}iraud, {F}. and {R}obert, {E}. and {M}asrour, {M}. and {B}ouchaou, {L}. and {E}l {H}ariri, {K}. and {H}ammed, {M}. {S}. and {A}ly, {M}. {F}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A}ptian to early {A}lbian times were marked by various geodynamic and paleoenvironmental events such as large igneous province volcanism, perturbations of climate and the carbon cycle, and sea-level changes. {T}he {E}ssaouira-{A}gadir basin ({EAB}), located on the {A}tlantic passive margin of {M}orocco, offers good and fossiliferous exposures of the {A}ptian-{A}lbian sedimentary series. {A} detailed analysis of this succession made it possible to establish a biostratigraphic framework. {T}he identification of discontinuities allowed to define eight depositional sequences. {A}s most of them are correlatable with depositional sequences of other {T}ethyan areas, they suggest that eustacy was the main parameter controlling sedimentation. {T}he analysis of sedimentary fades and nannofossil assemblages provides information on paleoenvironmental changes. {S}edimentation in the {EAB} evolved from a very low energy, carbonate ramp in the early {A}ptian to a low energy, slightly deeper, mixed carbonate-clastic ramp in the early {A}lbian. {T}his change occurred along with an increase of clastic input, a change from oligotrophic to mesotrophic faunal assemblages, and a decrease of sea-surface temperatures. {T}he occurrence of current sedimentary features, sporadic dysaerobic deposits and local phosphatic and glauconitic crusts suggests that upwelling currents were significant during this period. {P}aleogeographic and isopach maps support a transgressive trend in the late {A}ptian and early {A}lbian, and unravel subsidence anomalies suggesting mild halokinetic movements during {A}ptian-early {A}lbian times.}, keywords = {{E}arly {C}retaceous ; {S}edimentology ; {S}equence stratigraphy ; {P}aleoenvironment ; {P}aleogeography ; {MAROC} ; {ESSAOUIRA} ; {AGADIR} }, booktitle = {}, journal = {{C}retaceous {R}esearch}, volume = {102}, numero = {}, pages = {59--80}, ISSN = {0195-6671}, year = {2019}, DOI = {10.1016/j.cretres.2019.04.008}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010076601}, }
