@article{fdi:010076040, title = {{H}olothurian ({E}chinodermata) diversity of the {G}lorieuses {I}slands ({E}parses {I}slands, {F}rance, {M}ozambique channel)}, author = {{C}onand, {C}hantal and {M}ulochau, {T}. and {C}habanet, {P}ascale}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{G}lorieuses archipelago is one of the {E}parses {I}slands, {F}rench islands scattered in the {M}ozambique {C}hannel ({W}estern {I}ndian {O}cean). {T}hese isolated coral islands, without permanent human population, are important to evaluate the evolution of biodiversity without direct anthropogenic influence. {A}mong several aims, the program {B}io{R}e{CIE} ({B}iodiversity, {R}esources and {C}onservation of {E}parses {I}slands) was to complete the inventories of several groups including the holothurians ({E}chinodermata). {I}n {N}ovember 2012, a multidisciplinary team explored the reef slopes of the island by scuba diving down to 20 meters (10 sites), and the reef flats at low tide (12 sites) collecting specimens and taking photos for identification. {T}he total holothurian richness was 20 species; 10 species were collected on the slopes and 15 on the reef flats. {G}iven the limited number of sites studied, the occurrence of the different species in each class is presented as frequent, infrequent or rare. {T}he commercial species {H}olothuria nobilis, {B}ohadschia atra and {B}. subrubra were frequent but illegal fisheries on holothurians are already occurring. {T}emporal comparisons at local and regional scales using the same methodology show that the diversity in {G}lorieuses is high and suggests that the biodiversity is increasing as we go from {S}outh to {N}orth in the {M}ozambique channel, as observed also for other taxa associated with coral reefs (fish and hard corals).}, keywords = {{FAUNE} {BENTHIQUE} ; {HOLOTHURIE} ; {DIVERSITE} {SPECIFIQUE} ; {DISTRIBUTION} {SPATIALE} ; {ESPECE} {COMMERCIALE} ; {OCEAN} {INDIEN} ; {EPARSES} {ILES} ; {GLORIEUSES} {ILES} ; {MOZAMBIQUE} {CANAL}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{W}estern {I}ndian {O}cean {J}ournal of {M}arine {S}cience}, volume = {12}, numero = {1}, pages = {71--77}, ISSN = {0856-860{X}}, year = {2013}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010076040}, }
