@article{fdi:010075631, title = {{R}esistance of selected {O}ryza glaberrima landraces and their intra-specific breeding lines to {B}eninese {R}ice yellow mottle virus isolates}, author = {{A}gnoun, {Y}. and {Y}elome, {I}. and {S}ie, {M}. and {A}lbar, {L}aurence and {G}hesqui{\`e}re, {A}lain and {S}ilue, {D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{R}ice yellow mottle virus ({RYMV}) is a widespread and damaging pathogen, endemic to {A}frica and affecting rice in lowland, irrigated and upland ecologies. {Y}ield losses of 10-100% have been recorded, depending on rice genotypes, time of infection, cropping system, vector abundance and isolate pathogenicity. {C}ontrol measures for this disease are based mainly on cultural practices and the use of varietal resistance. {S}pecifically, {O}ryza glaberrima, the cultivated {A}frican rice species, has provided several of the known resistance alleles/genes. {I}n this study, 160 {O}. glaberrima landraces, 55 of their intra-specific progenies and two controls - {T}og5681 (resistant) and {IR}64 (susceptible) - were screened against five {RYMV} isolates collected from {N}orthern {B}enin. {D}isease severity was measured on plants at 21 and 42 days after inoculation. {T}wo cultivars - {IRGC}104019 and {IRGC}96787 ({T}og5644) - from {T}anzania and {N}igeria respectively - and 16 intra-specific lines were identified as highly resistant to all five isolates. {T}he genotyping of {IRGC}104019 and {IRGC}96787 revealed that they share allele rymv1-3, identified in {T}og5681 (the resistant control) and that confers resistance, bringing the number of {O}. glaberrima accessions known to date to harbor this allele to 11. {T}he importance of this finding and the level of resistance displayed by these two accessions strengthen the hypothesis that the {A}frican rice collection is a potential {RYMV} resistance donor. {I}t is, therefore, necessary to further screen it for valorizing its usefulness in breeding programs.}, keywords = {{O}ryza glaberrima ; {O}. saliva ; {L}andraces ; {I}ntra-specific lines ; {R}esistance/susceptibility to {RYMV} ; {B}enin ; {BENIN}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{C}rop {P}rotection}, volume = {119}, numero = {}, pages = {172--176}, ISSN = {0261-2194}, year = {2019}, DOI = {10.1016/j.cropro.2019.01.022}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010075631}, }
