@article{fdi:010075259, title = {{P}roximal composition, nutraceutical properties, and acute toxicity study of culinary-medicinal oyster mushroom powder, {P}leurotus ostreatus ({A}garicomycetes)}, author = {{L}ebeque, {Y}. and {M}orris, {H}. {J}. and {B}eltran, {Y}. and {L}laurado, {G}. and {P}erraud {G}aime, {I}sabelle and {M}eneses, {M}. and {M}oukha, {S}. and {B}ermudez, {R}. {C}. and {G}arcia, {N}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} compositional study was performed on fruiting-body powder of the culinary-medicinal oyster mushroom {P}leurotus ostreatus for applications as a nutraceutical/functional food. {C}arbohydrates (55 g/100 g dry weight [dw]) and proteins (27.45 g/100 g dw, with an in vitro digestibility of 75%) appear to be the major components, but fat content was low (4 g/100 g dw). {P}leurotus powder has important micronutrients such as minerals ({F}e, {C}u, {Z}n, {M}n, {M}g, and {C}o) and ascorbic acid, as well as nonnutrients (i.e., phenolics) with antioxidant potential. {A} powder-derived aqueous extract had a phenolic compound content of 138 mg/100 g that showed 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging and inhibition of membrane-lipid peroxidation activities of 58.3% and 61.4%, respectively. {T}he presence of beta-1,3-1,6-{D}-glucans was also demonstrated (1.54 g/100 g). {A}n acute toxicity test proved that {P}leurotus powder was safe after oral administration to both male and female mice at a dose of 2000 mg/kg. {T}he combination of rich nutritional composition, bioactivity, and safety in {P}. ostreatus fruiting-body powder highlights its potential as a nutraceutical agent promoting health and life quality.}, keywords = {acute toxicity ; antioxidant activity ; compositional study ; edible and medicinal mushrooms ; nutraceuticals ; {P}leurotus ostreatus}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {M}edicinal {M}ushrooms}, volume = {20}, numero = {12}, pages = {1185--1195}, ISSN = {1521-9437}, year = {2018}, DOI = {10.1615/{I}nt{JM}ed{M}ushrooms.v20.i12.60}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010075259}, }
