@article{fdi:010074912, title = {{W}here has the pollution gone ? {A} survey of organic contaminants in {H}o {C}hi {M}inh city / {S}aigon {R}iver ({V}ietnam) bed sediments}, author = {{B}abut, {M}. and {M}ourier, {B}. and {D}esmet, {M}. and {S}imonnet-{L}aprade, {C}. and {L}abadie, {P}. and {B}udzinski, {H}. and {D}e {A}lencastro, {L}. {F}. and {T}u, {T}. {A}. and {S}trady, {E}milie and {G}ratiot, {N}icolas}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} wide range of persistent organic chemicals, including polychlorinated biphenyls ({PCB}s), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons ({PAH}s), some insecticides, as well as polybrominated diphenyl ethers ({PBDE}s) and some perfluoroalkyl substances ({PFAS}s) were analyzed in 17 bed sediments collected along the {S}aigon {R}iver and at adjacent canal mouths from upstream to downstream in {H}o {C}hi {M}inh {C}ity ({V}ietnam). {C}oncentrations were rather low for {PAH}s, as well as for legacy {PCB}s and dichloro-diphenyl-trichlorethane and metabolites ({DDT}s), or below detection limits for several {PFAS}s and all {PBDE}s measured. {S}everal insecticides (chlorpyrifos-ethyl, and the pyrethroids cypermethrin and lambda-cyhalothrin) displayed rather high concentrations at a few sites within the city. {T}here was no distinct upstream - downstream trend for {PAH}s, ({DDT}s) or {PCB}s. {A}lthough adjacent canal sediments tended to be more contaminated than {S}aigon {R}iver sediments, the differences were not significant. {E}missions are almost certainly substantial for {PAH}s, and probably also for other contaminants such as {PBDE}s and some {PFAS}s. {D}uring the dry season, contaminants are presumably stored in the city, either in canals or on urban surfaces. {H}eavy rainfall during the monsoon period carries away contaminated particle flows into the canals and then the {S}aigon {R}iver. {T}he strong tidal influence in the river channel hinders the accumulation of contaminated particles. {C}ontaminated deposits should accordingly be investigated further downstream in depositional environments, such as the mangrove.}, keywords = {{S}ediment ; {I}nsecticide ; {PAH} ; {P}erfluoroalkyl substance ; {V}ietnam ; {S}aigon {R}iver ; {VIET} {NAM} ; {SAIGON} {COURS} {D}'{EAU}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{C}hemosphere}, volume = {217}, numero = {}, pages = {261--269}, ISSN = {0045-6535}, year = {2019}, DOI = {10.1016/j.chemosphere.2018.11.008}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010074912}, }
