@article{fdi:010074505, title = {{A}gronomic {L}inked {D}ata ({A}gro{LD}) : a knowledge-based system to enable integrative biology in agronomy}, author = {{V}enkatesan, {A}. and {N}gompe, {G}. {T}. and {E}l {H}assouni, {N}. and {C}hentli, {I}. and {G}uignon, {V}. and {J}onquet, {C}. and {R}uiz, {M}. and {L}armande, {P}ierre}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{R}ecent advances in high-throughput technologies have resulted in a tremendous increase in the amount of omics data produced in plant science. {T}his increase, in conjunction with the heterogeneity and variability of the data, presents a major challenge to adopt an integrative research approach. {W}e are facing an urgent need to effectively integrate and assimilate complementary datasets to understand the biological system as a whole. {T}he {S}emantic {W}eb offers technologies for the integration of heterogeneous data and their transformation into explicit knowledge thanks to ontologies. {W}e have developed the {A}gronomic {L}inked {D}ata ({A}gro{LD}-www.agrold.org), a knowledge-based system relying on {S}emantic {W}eb technologies and exploiting standard domain ontologies, to integrate data about plant species of high interest for the plant science community e.g., rice, wheat, arabidopsis. {W}e present some integration results of the project, which initially focused on genomics, proteomics and phenomics. {A}gro{LD} is now an {RDF} ({R}esource {D}escription {F}ormat) knowledge base of 100{M} triples created by annotating and integrating more than 50 datasets coming from 10 data sources-such as {G}ramene.org and {T}rop{G}ene{DB}-with 10 ontologies-such as the {G}ene {O}ntology and {P}lant {T}rait {O}ntology. {O}ur evaluation results show users appreciate the multiple query modes which support different use cases. {A}gro{LD}'s objective is to offer a domain specific knowledge platform to solve complex biological and agronomical questions related to the implication of genes/proteins in, for instances, plant disease resistance or high yield traits. {W}e expect the resolution of these questions to facilitate the formulation of new scientific hypotheses to be validated with a knowledge-oriented approach.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{PL}o{S} {O}ne}, volume = {13}, numero = {11}, pages = {e0198270 [17 ]}, ISSN = {1932-6203}, year = {2018}, DOI = {10.1371/journal.pone.0198270}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010074505}, }
