@article{fdi:010074332, title = {{G}uinea yam ({D}ioscorea spp., {D}ioscoreaceae) wild relatives identified using whole plastome phylogenetic analyses}, author = {{M}agwe-{T}indo, {J}. and {W}ieringa, {J}. {J}. and {S}onke, {B}. and {Z}apfack, {L}. and {V}igouroux, {Y}ves and {C}ouvreur, {T}homas and {S}carcelli, {N}ora}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he genus {D}ioscorea ({D}ioscoreaceae) contains several economically important species for human consumption, medical and pharmaceutical uses. {T}he phylogeny of this genus is not yet fully resolved. {A}s a result, the relationships between cultivated yams and their wild relatives are not well understood and this negatively affects the understanding of the evolution of cultivated yams. {H}ere, we reconstructed the phylogenetic relationships of the main {A}frican cultivated species with all {W}est {A}frican species in order to better circumscribe the crop wild relatives of {A}frican yams. {C}omplete plastomes of 57 individuals representing all 17 known {D}ioscorea species from {W}est {A}frica were reconstructed. {T}ree topologies generated using maximum parsimony and maximum likelihood approaches were highly congruent. {S}ix monophyletic groups were obtained. {A}ll the species were distinct except within the cultivated clade, where it was not possible to separate the two main cultivated species ({D}. cayenensis, {D}. rotundata) from their closest {W}est {A}frican wild relatives ({D}. abyssinica, {D}. praehensilis, {D}. sagittifolia). {D}ioscorea baya formed a monophyletic group closely related to the cultivated clade. {W}e therefore suggest it is included within the yam crop-wild relative complex.}, keywords = {crop-wild relatives ; {D}ioscorea ; herbarium genomics ; {NGS} ; {W}est {A}frica ; whole chloroplast genome ; {AFRIQUE} {DE} {L}'{OUEST}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{T}axon}, volume = {67}, numero = {5}, pages = {905--915}, ISSN = {0040-0262}, year = {2018}, DOI = {10.12705/675.4}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010074332}, }
