@article{fdi:010074327, title = {{L}atitudinal and longitudinal patterns of exhumation in the {A}ndes of {N}orth-{C}entral {C}hile}, author = {{R}odriguez, {M}. {P}. and {C}harrier, {R}. and {B}richau, {S}t{\'e}phanie and {C}arretier, {S}{\'e}bastien and {F}arias, {M}. and de {P}arseval, {P}. and {K}etcham, {R}. {A}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{N}ew thermochronometric data provide evidence for an along-strike diachronous building of the {A}ndes in north-central {C}hile (28.5-32 degrees {S}). {G}eochronological ({U}-{P}b zircon) and thermochronological (apatite fission track and ({U}-{T}h)/{H}e) analyses of rock units were obtained in west-to-east transects across the western topographic front. {T}hermal models indicate that the area west of the topographic front was little exhumed since approximately 45{M}a. {T}o the east of the western topographic front, the {M}ain {C}ordillera shows both latitudinal and longitudinal differences in exhumation patterns. {N}orth of 31.5 degrees {S}, {C}enozoic exhumation began before approximately 40-30{M}a at the western and eastern limits of the {M}ain {C}ordillera, building the {I}ncaic {R}ange. {L}ater, accelerated exhumation focused on the core of the {M}ain {C}ordillera and in the {F}rontal {C}ordillera at approximately 22-14{M}a and approximately 7{M}a, respectively. {S}outh of 31.5 degrees {S}, accelerated exhumation in the {M}ain {C}ordillera occurred mainly around 22-14{M}a, after an initial {E}ocene phase, and the locus of exhumation moved eastward by the late {M}iocene. {W}hereas accelerated exhumation in the early to mid-{M}iocene correlates with the breakup of the {F}arallon {P}late, late {M}iocene accelerated exhumation correlates with the onset of flat subduction. {L}atitudinal differences on the exhumation timing along the western topographic front of the {M}ain {C}ordillera may be due to the absence of the {P}aleozoic crystalline core south of 31.5 degrees {S}, which seems to have acted as a buttress for shortening during the {E}ocene.}, keywords = {{C}hilean {A}ndes ; western topographic front of the {A}ndes ; spatial variation of exhumation patterns ; {E}ocene deformation ; early to middle {M}iocene deformation ; late {M}iocene deformation ; {CHILI} ; {ANDES}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{T}ectonics}, volume = {37}, numero = {9}, pages = {2863--2886}, ISSN = {0278-7407}, year = {2018}, DOI = {10.1029/2018tc004997}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010074327}, }
