@article{fdi:010073755, title = {{T}he nature of the electron acceptor ({M}n{IV}/{NO}3) triggers the differential expression of genes associated with stress and ammonium limitation responses in {S}hewanella algae {C}6{G}3}, author = {{A}igle, {A}. and {B}onin, {P}. and {F}ernandez-{N}unez, {N}. and {L}oriod, {B}. and {G}uasco, {S}. and {B}ergon, {A}. and {A}rmougom, {F}abrice and {I}obbi-{N}ivol, {C}. and {I}mbert, {J}. and {M}ichotey, {V}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{S}hewanella algae {C}6{G}3 can dissimilatively reduce nitrate into ammonium and manganese oxide ({M}n{IV}) into {M}n{II}. {I}t has the unusual ability to anaerobically produce nitrite from ammonium in the presence of {M}n{IV}. {T}o gain insight into their metabolic capabilities, global m{RNA} expression patterns were investigated by {RNA}-seq and q{RT}-{PCR} in cells growing with lactate and ammonium as carbon and nitrogen sources, and with either {M}n{IV} or nitrate as electron acceptors. {G}enes exhibiting higher expression levels in the presence of {M}n{IV} belonged to functional categories of carbohydrate, coenzyme, lipid metabolisms and inorganic ion transport. {T}he comparative transcriptomic pattern between {M}n{IV} and {NO}3 revealed that the strain presented an ammonium limitation status with {M}n{IV}, despite the presence of a non-limiting concentration of ammonium under both culture conditions. {I}n addition, in the presence of {M}n{IV}, ntr{B}/nrt{C} regulators, ammonium channel, nitrogen regulatory protein {P}-{II}, glutamine synthetase and asparagine synthetase glutamine-dependent genes were over-represented. {U}nder the nitrate condition, the expression of genes involved in the synthesis of several amino acids was increased. {F}inally, the expression level of genes associated with the general stress response was also amplified in both conditions and among them, kat{E}, a putative catalase/peroxidase present on several {S}hewanella genomes, was highly expressed with a median value relatively higher in the {M}n{IV} condition.}, keywords = {{S}hewanella algae ; manganese oxide ; nitrate ; nitrogen limitation ; transcriptome ; catalase}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{FEMS} {M}icrobiology {L}etters}, volume = {365}, numero = {13}, pages = {fny068 [9 p.]}, ISSN = {0378-1097}, year = {2018}, DOI = {10.1093/femsle/fny068}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010073755}, }
