  abstract = {{T}his study represents the first exploration of the parasite fauna of cichlid fishes in the {M}weru-{L}uapula subregion ({C}entral {A}frica). {T}welve species of cichlids and 14 species of {M}onogenea from three genera ({C}ichlidogyrus, {G}yrodactylus and {S}cutogyrus) were collected. {W}e present a first record of the gill parasite fauna of eight host species, {O}reochromis mweruensis, {O}rthochromis sp. {M}ambilima', {S}argochromis mellandi, {S}erranochromis angusticeps, {S}. stappersi, {S}. thumbergi and {T}ylochromis mylodon. {T}he host range of ten parasite species was expanded. {T}he study further includes the description of {C}ichlidogyrus consobrini sp. n. from {S}. mellandi and {O}rthochromis sp. {M}ambilima'. {A} new morphotype of {C}. halli is characterized, and three species - {C}. papernastrema, {C}. quaestio and {C}. zambezensis - are redescribed. {F}urthermore, the biodiversity and host specificity of these parasites is compared with that of cichlid parasites from {L}ake {K}ariba and {C}ameroon. {T}wo species, including {C}. consobrini sp. n. and a new morphotype of {C}. halli, are putative endemics. {T}he parasite fauna in {B}angweulu-{M}weru is highly similar in species composition to {L}ake {K}ariba, but in {B}angweulu-{M}weru the same parasite species are more host-specific, probably because of hydrogeographical differences between the two regions.},
