  abstract = {{P}leioluma ({B}aill.) {B}aehni ({S}apotaceae) circumscribes some 40 medium-sized trees and shrubs, many gynodioecious, in {A}ustralia, {M}alesia and {N}ew {C}aledonia. {S}ystematics of the group is unclear and delimitations of species are notoriously difficult. {W}e explore species boundaries in {N}ew {C}aledonia by multiple accessions of 'species', molecules and morphology in a {B}ayesian framework. {T}he molecular phylogenetic signal is weak, but morphology provides enough information to support groups, species and recognition of one cryptic species. {P}leioluma is then revised for {N}ew {C}aledonia, a genus distinguished by areolate higher leaf venation, sepals being pubescent on both surfaces, stamens inserted in or below the middle of the corolla tube, presence of staminodes, foliaceous cotyledons and endosperm. {S}eventeen endemic species are recognised with descriptions, recognition notes, distributions, etymologies and conservation assessments. {S}ix species are described as new, of which four are assigned {IUCN} preliminary status as {C}ritically {E}ndangered and in urgent need of protection ({P}leioluma acutifolia {S}wenson & {M}unzinger, {P}. belepensis {S}wenson & {M}unzinger, {P}. butinii {S}wenson & {M}unzinger and {P}. tchingouensis {S}wenson & {M}unzinger). {T}he new species, {P}. dioica {S}wenson & {M}unzinger and {P}. tenuipedicellata {S}wenson & {M}unzinger are respectively assessed as {D}ata {D}eficient and {V}ulnerable. {T}he micro-endemic species {P}. vieillardii ({B}aill.) {S}wenson & {M}unzinger, confined to the {K}oniambo massif, is also critically endangered and needs urgent conservation management.},
